Electromechanical Technology

There is no one source for this course. Students will be given all necessary handouts for required reading. Students will be expected to do research using the internet. This course is designed as a beginning level electronics course, which will provide the student with an understanding of basic electronic circuitry and component testing. This course covers the fundamentals of analog and digital circuits. Digital topics include binary number system, Boolean algebra, logic gates, combinational logic, flip-flips and sequential logic.

The course begins with a review of oscilloscopes theory, operation and digital multi-meters operation. Students will first construct and run circuit simulation of digital and analog circuits using multisim electronics workbench software. The program concludes with a project given at 4th quarter involving all knowledge obtained in the use of analog and digital circuits and their ability to control real world systems.  Students in their senior year will participate in the assembly, testing of a major automated system such as a “pick and place” robotic work cell, a conveyor fed elevator material storage system or a small trash compactor.

The objective of Electrical-Mechanical program is to educate and prepare students for career opportunities in manufacturing environments where automated and semi-automated machines and processes are used. Electromechanical technicians perform installation, testing and preventive and corrective maintenance on electromechanical as well as aiding in the design of such systems.
