Welding

Welding/Metal Technology offers an instructional area where students learn to become proficient in the skills and techniques needed to become licensed welders and fabricators. The program provides training for a challenging career in the ever-expanding welding industry. The program of study is correlated between Related Theory and Shop. The program consists of three areas of study, which are carefully arraigned in sequential steps. Students receive training in seven different welding disciplines and are counseled about the many career opportunities that are available. All instruction utilizes the latest in state-of-the-art equipment and emphasizes safety.

Students will be given challenging real-world projects and assignments typical of the welding industry. Quality work is considered paramount for success in the welding industry and students will be given opportunity to rework all of their projects and practice sessions until they meet industry standards. Shop activities will include projects, and a competency based approach to a learning environment with emphasis placed on the seven processes that make up the major components of an all-around professional welder. Students will work in teams when projects are designed and built, Students will be expected to complete competencies independently to gain the skill needed to become a proficient welder. Assessment methods will include observation by the instructor, non-destructive test, and destructive test of welds to insure strength and quality.
