Allied Health
Allied Health Students are eligible for earning two certifications in the health care field: Nursing Assistant in their Junior Year, and Home Health Aide (contingent on being a Certified Nursing Assistant) in their senior year. Eligibility is based on successful performance, participation, in the program and achieving grades 80 or better in related theory and shop. The guidelines are set up to meet the requirements of Hospital and Nursing Home externships as well requirements by the Department of Public Health (DPH). The DPH reviews our polices, and visits/reviews our program periodically and recommends approval or dissapproval of the training program. Policies to be reviewed include, but are not limited to: student slection, attendance at clinical sites, grade expectations, and curriculum.
Allied Health students are assigned to externships at: St. Vincent’s Hospital at the Worcester Medical Center, Umass Memorial Hospitals, Abbot Animal Hospital, Christopher House Nursing Home and various Co-op sites. When assigned to these externships, students follow the policies and rules of conduct cited in the Worcester Public Schools handbook, as well as the policies and rules cited by the health care agency assigned. Prior to going out, students must have by September 24th, a PPD (tuberculosis) test with results, copy of a physical exam within the past 12 months, current CPR certification immunizations be up to date.
Program Summary
The Allied Health program provides health students with the theory and skill competencies to be successful. The primary focus of the program is successful clinical and employability skills for entry-level positions in the health industry. In their sophomore year students begin externship that requires mature, performance oriented students. Successful program completions include certifications as a nursing assistant and home allied health aide.
Senior Work Programs
Once certified, students have the opportunity to expand clinical skills working in tertiary care center, co-op positions chiropractic offices, St. Vincent’s Hospital (float pool, one day surgery, and cardiac rehab) and area nursing homes.

Opportunities
Graduates of this program have gone on to two and four year collegiate nursing programs (UMASS/Dartmouth, UMASS/Amherst, Worcester State College, Quinsigamond community college, and Springfield College) join emergency response teams to become radiology technicians, office managers, rehabilitation specialists, and to health careers in the armed forces.
