Business Information Systems

(formerly Office Technology)

The Business Information Systems department of Worcester Technical High School is a Chapter 74 approved program designed to educate and prepare students for employment and further training in the areas of business technology, computer operations, accounting, word processing, and automated business systems.

The department strives to provide its students with the employment skills and training to meet the challenges of a global economy and society. On-going efforts endeavor to keep current with industry trends relevant to equipment and practices in the area of business technologies.

Students are encouraged to work to their full potential and to develop not only the professional skills essential for successful employment, but also the work habits and personal traits necessary for a prosperous and enjoyable work experience.

The department feels that students can be trained to their fullest potential to fill the many types and levels of positions that exist in the area of business technology. Students are encouraged to work to their highest level of ability and to strive to meet the challenges of the department’s prescribed curriculum.

The department is committed to working with the staff and the administration of Worcester Technical High School to ensure that all students receive a strong foundation in both the technical and academic area. To achieve this, the department works with the academic faculty to develop writing and numeric across the curriculum programs whenever feasible.

Opportunities

Memberships in skills USA/VICA
Students are eligible to become members of skills USA/VICA, where they compete with other vocational in their respective trade.

Senior Co-op/Internship
Seniors can, when available, serve either a Co-op or internship as a component of their senior year Curriculum. Students are placed in area offices where they work as a member of the office staff. Many of these positions are paid internships.
