Painting and Design Technology
Welcome to Mr. Carrier's Website. I am the Freshmen and Sophomore instructor. In these first two years, the students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the Painting and Design trade.
Worcester Technical High School and the Painting and Design Program provide students with the training and skills needed for employment in a challenging and rewarding trade in addition to earning a High School diploma. All competencies will follow the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education curriculum frameworks guidelines.
CORE CONCEPT:
The goal of Painting and Design is to enable students to practice, acquire knowledge, skills, judgment and professionalism. In addition, the student is expected to attain employment at an entry-level position within the field
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Freshmen Year (1st Year)
Freshmen are instructed in good work habits and must adhere to proper safety procedures toward themselves, others, surrounding property and equipment used within the trade. They are trained in the use and principles of basic trade tools. They learn the composition and fundamental methods on application of materials. Students are introduced to preparation and preservation of surfaces, furniture finishing, repair and refinishing, wallcovering installation, glass glazing, color theory and spraying. All instruction time is concentrated in the shop.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Sophomore Year (2nd Year)
Sophomores receive instruction on basic tradesmanship and are given responsibility in the preparation, application, preservation and completion of larger scale projects. Their training is concentrated on improving their hands-on skills with trade tools, color mixing of paints and stains, computer sign making, spray painting techniques, estimating costs and material, and interior design. Most instruction is concentrated in the shop.
