Freshman Q1-Q2: ExploratoryThe Telecommunications Shop Exploratory course is designed to introduce the freshmen students to a typical week in Telecommunications Shop. A shop overview and review of the Telecommunications Exploratory Journal is conducted on the first day. The next two days are conducted in the same fashion as all of the A+ courses, a daily reading assignment, chapter review questions, lecture, labs and a hands-on on assignment. The material covered is the exact same material that will be presented and assigned during the A+ Core Hardware course. The remaining days, various labs and projects are conducted based on different computer topics. Freshman Exploratory Related TheoryThe Windows XP Basic Related Theory course is designed to introduce the student to the Windows XP Operating System, which is used on all of the computers at the school (currently). The course is conducted via Computer Based Training (CBT) whose goal is to teach the students how to learn with minimal instruction. Since most of the information required by an Information Technology Technician is learned post-high school, the current Related Theory structure allows the students to develop and practice this important skill. 1826: A+ HARDWARE & SUPPORTThe IT Essentials course is designed to teach the student the advanced material covered on the CompTIA A+ certification exams. Through further self study, obtained partially by completing practice test exams and through hands-on experience during shop, the student should then be able to take and pass the A+ certification exams. A+ exams will cover hardware and software with added elements of security and soft skills, as well as safety and environmental issues. 1820: CLIENT OPERATING SYSTEM Configuring Windows 7 Client will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure successful configuration of the IT Pro tools and productivity applications that ship with Windows 7. Students will focus on six main areas: maintenance and optimization tools, media applications, productivity applications, notebook computers, mobile devices, and Tablet PCs. Same material as Configuring Windows 7 Client (MCTS) 70-680. 1827: CCNA ROUTING & SWITCHINGThis course prepares students for jobs as network technicians. It also helps students develop additional skills required for computer technicians and help desk technicians. It provides a basic overview of routing and remote access, addressing, and security. It also familiarizes students with servers that provide e-mail services, Web space, and authenticated access. 1828: CCNA ENTERPRISE NET DESIGNThis course introduces students to network design processes using two examples; a large stadium enterprise network and a medium-sized film company network. Students follow a standard design process to expand and upgrade each network, which includes requirements gathering, proof-of-concept, and project management. Lifecycle services, including upgrades, competitive analyses, and system integration, are presented in the context of pre-sale support. |
